Amsterdam Haven-Stad

The extensive area which is referred to by the name ‘Haven-Stad’, or ‘Port City’, covers the western port area within the A10 ring road on both sides of the river IJ, Sloterdijk and the Coen and Vlot harbours. Haven-Stad is made up of twelve subareas, including historic port areas. The subareas all have a different identity. One area is dominated by water and another area by greenery, while others are intensely urban or industrial in nature. The municipality wants each area to retain its existing character wherever possible and intends to build between 40,000 and 70,000 homes and create between 45,000 and 58,000 jobs. The subareas are going to be developed in phases and it is currently the turn of Sloterdijk and the Houthavens. The areas to the north will follow after 2025.
