Lumen

Lumen is being built on the location of the former Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management office building and is being developed into a unique place to live. The location is part of the three-kilometre-long seafront in Scheveningen, ideally located between Scheveningen harbour and the boulevard. The OeverZaaijer design links up seamlessly with the DNA of the Scheveningen coast to produce a mix between the powerful and rugged appearance of the harbour and the holiday feeling you get when at the seaside. The redevelopment is part of the Scheveningen Coast Master Plan, in which the municipality of The Hague is trying to give the Scheveningen coast a new image. All apartments are already sold.

Light living

Lumen is right next to the beach, the boulevard and the harbour. You can see something of all those elements of the town of Scheveningen reflected in the building. The layer of sand across the façade changes colour in the sun and gives you a real feeling of being at the beach. The building also reflects the modern interplay of lines of the new boulevard, and the rugged, nautical materials, such as wood and steel, are a reference to the harbour.

In Lumen, everything revolves around the light and the view. Both indoors and outdoors, in all 69 apartments, of which there are no fewer than 35 types. There are studios, lofts, corner apartments, three and four room apartments, apartments on two levels and penthouses. All of them have some fantastic outdoor space.

In addition to modern apartments, Lumen also offers a variety of communal facilities, designed by design agency Tank. These include a coffee lounge with a sea view. There is also a surf shack where you can leave your surfing gear and rinse the sand from your feet and an eSafe Wall where you can safely receive and send packages. Lastly, there is a car park – hidden under the dunes – providing a safe place for you to leave your car, motorbike or bicycle. Lumen is designed to make life as pleasant as possible for its residents.

Lumen truly blends into the environment. That process actually starts on the inside.

We have used natural materials, in light colour tones – for example, wood that appears to be weather-beaten due to exposure to the sun and open air. The building has no neatly plastered walls, smoothly varnished wood and unblemished concrete, but is rough and wonderfully imperfect instead. It is an interplay of shadow and light. You will not find any trendy wallpaper, but exciting patterns which are reflected by nature itself.

The beach is your front garden

Scheveningen beach is right outside your front door. Literally. Sand and sea, the harbours, the boulevard and the Pier. No matter how you want to spend your day at the beach, the residents of the 69 Lumen apartments have it all on their doorstep.
