An apartment building with 79 owner-occupied homes is being constructed on the location of the former ‘Het Groenland’ shipyard on the Wittenburg peninsula in Amsterdam. Two sides of the building face the water, with a basin having been excavated from the direction of the Wittenburgervaart. The project preconditions have turned the design into a building that is anchored in its environment and gives the impression of having been there forever. The apartment building is based on the design by the well-known firm of architects AWG, headed by the Flemish Government Architect bOb van Reeth.

The apartment building is stylish in appearance and is a reference to the warehouses of yesteryear. One unique detail is that two sides of the building are in the water. Inside the building are 70 apartments, 9 penthouses and 40 parking spaces in a fully automatic parking system in the basement.
The design of this building pays homage to the old warehouses in the area, such as the nearby East India company warehouse. Calm monolithic and monochrome façade designs determine the building’s identity. A repetitive rhythm of windows, doors and terrace openings create gaps in continuous walls.
From the entrance, all residents have access to a waterside terrace. The apartments themselves have a large sun room or roof terrace. The apartments have been designed in such a way that the residents are able to determine the layout themselves. The car park in the building has an automatic parking system.
