Inner-city project development
Inner-city project development is all about adding value not only for the new residents, of course, but also for the immediate vicinity – in other words, for the neighbourhood. It therefore always begins with an extremely thorough assessment of what a town or city and a neighbourhood need. Space is often at a premium and the majority of projects are surrounded by existing buildings. What is more, each environment has a past.
As a consequence, inner-city project development often entails tackling complex issues which require both creativity and innovation. These are challenges we are keen to take on and we know from experience that it is beneficial to keep an eye on the bigger picture and on the details which make a building unique. The aim is to develop a project which is beneficial to the immediate surroundings, which takes account of those surroundings and, at the same time, adds a new chapter to its history.
De Baak
De Baak is a residential building with well over 100 mid-priced rental homes in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. The design links up seamlessly with the existing buildings in the neighbourhood. De Baak stands for connections. Connections between the residents themselves and between the residents and the rest of the local area. This social cohesion not only has a positive effect on the residents’ enjoyment of life, but on the entire local area.
Lloyd Yard
Lloyd Yard is the crown on the transformation of the Lloyd Pier. The design pays homage to the area’s industrial past with a striking opening in the façade – the ‘Maasvenster’ or ‘Maas Window’ – providing a view of the imposing river Maas. Lloyd Yard is home to a very wide range of property types, ranging from studios and maisonettes to town houses. Lloyd Yard also represents sustainability. The lush courtyard garden, greenhouse on the roof and communal outside spaces create a building that is enveloped in greenery.
Elements
Elements is an iconic residential tower on the banks of the Amstel river. The use of parametric design has created a unique form which is in harmony with the natural elements of sun and wind. Elements stands for connections. Connections between the residents themselves thanks to the cohesion which exists between the rental and owner-occupied homes, in various price segments, and the swimming pool and connections between the residents and the rest of the local area thanks to the bar and the co-working spaces. It also stands for a connection between the city and its green outlying areas through the greenery in the three courtyards and around the building itself.
