A place in the city, where all elements come together. That’s Elements. A 70 meter high building is being built on the banks of the Amstel in Amsterdam, which immediately attracts attention. Sun, wind, water and nature: ‘Elements’ is the first building to be fully shaped by the elements, so that future residents can optimally enjoy a life in both the city and nature. The collaboration between Kondor Wessels Vastgoed as a trusted partner with, among others, Koschuch Architects and ARUP ensures a holistic approach and a balanced view of what is best for the building. Elements also won the top prize of the London Design Awards in 2020. In the new ARUP video, Silvie Bruijning (Kondor Wessels Vastgoed), Mathew Vola (ARUP) and Patrick Koschuch (Koschuch Architects) talk about this unique project.
A unique design in Amsterdam
Elements’ design is unique in every way. The design by Koschuch Architects is largely based on the design in which ARUP compared hundreds of tower variants. In this way, Elements gets optimal sunlight and the best possible wind climate on the street, in the park, on the roof garden and in the courtyard. The approximately 70 meter high tower contains space for 70 owner-occupied apartments and 70 rental homes in the mid-price segment – a segment that is in great demand in the Netherlands, especially in the Randstad and Amsterdam region.
The demountable building design contains many natural and recycled materials such as wood, with a low environmental footprint. In addition, Elements literally and figuratively provides energy; the building consumes less energy than the amount of energy generated by the PV panels on the roof and in the facades. The strength of the parametric design therefore revolves around the fact that it includes all elements and maximizes the experience of these elements at home, which contributes to a healthier living environment for the residents.
A place to relax
In addition to the parametric model, Elements contains many factors that make the building attractive to residents. The different housing types create a comfortable space for everyone. There are studios and lofts, but also townhouses and spacious double-layer penthouses.
To escape the bustle of the city, residents do not have to look far. For example, there will be a swimming pool on the first floor, exclusively for residents, with a view over the Amstel. The winter garden, courtyard and roof garden provide the necessary greenery, where city life is transformed into an existence in nature. In winter you can also skate on the pond in the roof garden. In the transparent head of the building there will be a hospitality facility where the outside can be brought in by using the harmonica doors. Here the view of the Amstel and the park is optimal and residents really get back into their ‘element’.
The intended start for the sale of the owner-occupied apartments will start in the second quarter of 2022. Interested parties can register via www.elementsamstel.nl
