De Baak is a new-build project with 127 sustainable, mid-priced rental homes in Amsterdam Nieuw-West and it is now a step closer to completion. This week, the contract of sale was signed between project developer KondorWessels Vastgoed (part of VolkerWessels) and the investor, Zurich Insurance Group. Willem Gaymans (KondorWessels Vastgoed) and Cornel Widmer (Zurich Insurance Group) signed the contract.
The building is helping the municipality of Amsterdam to realise its ambition of creating more mid-priced rental homes which are affordable for people on middle incomes to fulfil the substantial need for these homes in the city. Certainly in the Nieuw-West district important steps are being taken in that respect, explains Ronald Mauer, who is a member of the executive committee of the Nieuw-West borough council. ‘In this district we have an age-old tradition of urban renewal. This year, we are once again going to construct large numbers of mid-priced rental homes in Amsterdam and particularly in the district of Nieuw-West. That idea is for Nieuw-West to become a broadly attractive place to live. A place where everyone feels at home. Through the development, realisation and sale of De Baak, Kondor Wessels Vastgoed and Zurich insurance Group is helping the municipality of Amsterdam to realise this goal.’ Matthias Hübner, Head of Real Estate Europe in Zürich, wholeheartedly agrees. ‘This acquisition is testament to Zürich’s serious intent to invest for the long term and to our confidence in the European residential sector.’
Plenty of green space in the family-friendly neighbourhood of Geuzenveld-Slotermeer
De Bakemabuurt in Nieuw-West is a popular neighbourhood among families where there was plenty of space for living and recreation. With five different parks in the area, Geuzenveld-Slotermeer is one of the Amsterdam’s greenest neighbourhoods. It is located close to, and has excellent transport links with, the city centre.
Schedule
Wessels Zeist is responsible for implementing the De Baak project. The construction work is expected to start in the second quarter of 2021 and the project will be completed at the start of 2023. The expectation is that the first homes will be available for rent halfway through 2022. More information on the registration process will follow in due course.
